A Volleyball Weekend

I got back late last night from a little family road trip. My brother, Aaron, and I traveled out to Hutchinson together to meet up with my parents and watch my sister’s volleyball team play.

My sister, Amy, is the head coach at Seminole State, a community college located in Seminole, Oklahoma. It’s about four or five hours away from Topeka, so I haven’t had the opportunity to go down and watch her team yet. But this weekend they were playing in a highly competitive tournament in Hutchinson, a reasonable 3-hour trip from Topeka.

Unfortunately, Amy’s girls didn’t win any of the games I got to watch (I missed their first win against Barton County). I know Amy was disappointed with that, but I was still very proud of her and the way her team played. I mean, the teams they lost to were nationally ranked in the top 20 in the country, including the team currently ranked first. And while they never won a match, they did play several of them very close.

It also seemed like luck was stacked against them as they really didn’t have many extra players on the bench. So if one of the girls started struggling, Amy didn’t have much to work with in terms of making a quick substitution. And two of her typical starters were sidelined with injury, again stacking the odds against them.

The whole weekend brought back lots of fond memories from my days of playing volleyball at Cowley County. Althought my team was never nationally ranked, we did have a great time together and it was a great life experience for me.

21 Weeks Belly

According to the books, my baby is as long as a large banana right now. Seems kind of weird, but at least it gives some perspective … I guess.

My Old Navy order for tall maternity pants was a success! I got three pair of pants, a few dresses and shirts. Hopefully, I won’t have to buy much more … because it’s about time to start buying baby stuff.

My first sonogram is on the 30th. With any luck, we’ll have another healthy check-up and get to find out the sex of the baby. I’m excited about the opportunity to see the baby, but a little afraid that I’m not really going to be able to see it. I’ve never been able to decipher the sonograms that I’ve seen previously, with the exception of the 3-D ones (they kind of creep me out).

My Acting Debut – The 2008 United Way Video

Tons of things have happened since I last updated. Too many to list … sorry about that … so I’m making up for it by debuting my acting career in the Topeka United Way video. It’s just a short little spot, but I’m pretty sure I need to be packing my bags for L.A. : )

Oh yeah, Brandon’s in it too. See if you can spot him!

I actually helped with the production of the video too. It was a Gimzo Pictures and jhP collaboration for this year’s local United Way campaign.

19 Weeks Belly

19 Weeks BellyMy belly is growing and my clothing options are all officially “maternity wear.” I’m in the process of packing up my old clothes, as they are a nagging reminder of how limited my new wardrobe is.

Now each morning is like a clothing adventure … what’s gonna fit? What will look okay together? Hopefully I will be expanding my wardrobe soon … I am expecting a package from Old Navy. I’ve found they sell tall maternity pants, but they’re only available online so finding the correct sizes has taken more time than usual.

Works of Heart 2008

This year I donated "Paradise" to the Family Service & Guidance Center’s Works of Heart Art Auction. The auction took place Friday night, August 21 at Washburn University’s Memorial Union.
The night was very successful! Lots of money was raised, and all of the young artists had a great time.
