Another Great Weekend of Art

There is a wide variety of art events going on in the area this weekend. Everything kicks off with First Friday here in Topeka on Friday night – I am particularly interested in checking out Topeka’s newest gallery, Westboro Fine Art, owned by Rod Seel.

Brandon and I will spend Saturday in Emporia checking out all of the artwork on display at Toad Hallow. It’s is smaller art fair, but I hear the intimate garden setting really sets the mood. I am hoping to purchase a Terry Maxwell piece!

On Sunday, I plan on visiting the Mulvane Mountain/Plains Art Fair at Washburn’s campus.

Back in the Studio – 5.25.07

After a two-week hiatus, I have started painting again. It’s nice to set at my art table and let my imagination flow – it’s very calming. I’ve got so many things that I want to paint right now . . . I’m really looking forward to the holiday weekend!
I am working on an ocean landscape right now. It’s going to look great over my couch – even if it’s only up for awhile.

Line Dance is Finished

Line DanceI spent 10 hours painting on Saturday finishing up my commission piece for the American Royal.

The new style is so much more time consuming, I seriously underestimated how long it was going to take me to lay down the background. I was expecting 2-3 hours, but it ended up taking me 7. Then I had to sign and finish the painting.

I met with my framer, Josh Pattie of J & Co Frameshop, bright and early at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning to get Line Dance framed. I took Josh out for breakfast at iHop afterward – it was the least I could do with him accommodating my odd hours.

I delivered my painting to Kate and Megan Evans later that day.

Check out my American Royal Commission Gallery to view the painting in various stages.

First Friday was a Success!

My opening reception for “Thoughts, Dreams and Pretty Things” at Creative Art Photography & Gallery was a success! The First Friday following was strong; we had a steady crowd from 5:45 to 8:30. I was fortunate enough to meet many of the communities’ art advocates, and discuss Topeka’s renewed enthusiam for the arts.

Visit the Thoughts, Dreams & Pretty Things Gallery to see photos from the opening.

I also sold my Yarn Bin Series and Cinco de Mayo. It was great to see so many people that were already familiar with my work and that had been following my art career. It was the first time I realized that I have several people that are starting to collect my work.

Thanks to everyone that attended my opening! Especially Bonnie & Bob Green, who traveled all the way from Kansas City to see my artwork!
